Project Unity: Ship Specifications

Ship Specifications

Unity at Launch

The original Unity vessel began construction in 2082 and was completed three years later. It was built to house twenty-five engineers, scientists and crew on a year long mission throughout the Solar System of Earth. The original ship design, by engineer James Hunt, was sketched on a cocktail napkin not long after the end of the Third World War. Though many of the ship's elements changed - the engine design remained true to its original form and Hunt is credited with creating the fast propulsion system of the time.

Deck one consisted of the Bridge, the captain's quarters, six double occupancy quarters for crew, communal bathroom facilities, deck one of Engineering, a medical bay and a conference room.

Deck two consisted of a gym, six double occupancy quarters for crew, communal bathroom facilities, deck two of Engineering, a science lab and a mess hall.

Deck three consisted of cargo space, waste processing facilities and deck three of Engineering.

The Ark

As their time in space progressed, it became obvious that the available space would not be sufficient if the crew intended to grow. Early in their journey, they encountered other species and were able to barter with them for technology and parts. Occasionally they were forced to salvage from derelict ships and space debris. It took nearly two decades for the first segment of the Ark to be completed.

Additional segments were added through the generations until the ship contained quarters and work space for fifteen hundred people. Additional science labs, shops, quarters, recreational facilities and an arboretum were developed within the Ark over three hundred years of space travel.

The Refit

Thanks to the space dock at the Ne'Vha Colony, Unity was able to begin a long overdue refit. Due to the losses from the rebellion, over a third of the ship was now vacant and parts from the third segment were used to reinforce the outer hull. Much of the interior of the ship was gutted and redesigned to make Unity more technologically advanced. The inhabitants of the Colony, who consisted of descendants of Earth and the Quuvarii aggressors, were happy to share their resources and technology with Unity.
