Career:
At the behest of her parents, Hoshimi Katou pursued the study of science from an early age. Though it was never her favorite subject, she performed well and her exams indicated she'd be well suited for a position within the department. Though she began with general sciences, the study of genetics attracted her most.

As the newest member of the science team, she was expected to take the least desirable jobs and shifts in her early career. While this may have bothered others, Katou embraced the graveyard shift as it allowed her to pursue her own interests with very little oversight. She became the new chief, five years ago, though she didn't ask for the position or apply. Many believe the appointment had to do with her ancestral claim.

Family and Relationships:
Suffering from secondary infertility following Hoshimi's birth, her parents applied for and were accepted into the Embryotic Host Program. Her mother and father treated Han as their own, biological child - much to Hoshimi's annoyance. Han Katou joined the Sons of Liberty early, before they'd made their presence known on the main decks. He was killed during the rebellion.

Career oriented, Hoshimi Katou has had few romantic relationships. The first real attempt was with human scientist Aryn Darcy, which began well but hit a bump when Aryn revealed that she, and several other humans, were seeking a home on Unity. Katou felt used and broke off the relationship. Aryn still insists that her feeling were, and are, true.

Allegiances:
Though Hoshimi considers herself a staunch loyalist, she recognizes some injustices. When Bonwick questioned Julian Ice in regards to Andrea Kawolski's murder and then dismissed him - Hoshimi approached Captain Hunt with the information. She does not like or respect Meng Asada at this time and still considers him a terrorists and/or rebellious scum but she has not made trouble since the rebellion ended.
