Rank: Sub-Lieutenant
Primary duty: Doctor
Ancestral link: Russell Allen, Doctor
Partner: Asada, Meng
Father (biological): Allen, Spencer
Mother: Ryan, Anya
Age: 27
Career:
Due to her eidetic memory, Freya accelerated through her primary classes and was promoted to the highest level for her age group. This education opportunity was generally reserved for ancestral children only and Freya's presence was not appreciated by everyone. In spite of some protesting, she remained in the class and excelled.
Unbeknownst to her, Captain Hunt championed her application for the Medical Ward and eventually ordered Doctor Harold Finn to accept her as a medical student. Though her status as a second generation embryotic would restrict her from taking official exams, she was able to learn from Doctors Finn and Hapsberg. Considered merely a medical trainee, she was often relegated to the more tedious tasks. After five years in the Medical Ward, Captain Hunt (and others) recognized that she had as much knowledge and talents as the Doctors - though the Council would never allow her to take the exams.
During the height of the rebellion, Freya chose to join the Sons of Liberty (with the blessing of Doctor Hapsberg and Captain Hunt), although her reasons were not the same as others. She joined because they had limited medical staff and higher casualties. As the only doctor, she spent the months working almost constantly. At the end of the rebellion, she returned to the Medical Ward and, though she never took the exams, is considered a full doctor.
Family and Relationships:
Anya and Theodin Ryan suffered from infertility as a couple. As first generation embryotics, they were not entitled to use donor DNA in order to have a child or to enroll in the Embryotic Host Program. Doctor Spencer Allen, moved by their plight and discreetly offered his own DNA to help Anya conceive a child. When little Freya was born, he altered her medical record to hide the fact that she was not, biologically, Theodin's child. He copied the real file and entrusted it with then Sub-Commander Hunt. Freya was raised to believe she was a second generation embryotic and did not find out her true lineage until the rebellion.
Freya had a long term relationship with Julian Ice, stemming from their school days. She held him at arms length for some time, weary of the rules that could destroy both their careers, but relented in time. Still, it wasn't until the rebellion had begun that Freya was willing to throw out the rules and embrace their relationship. A couple months later, Julian abruptly ended their engagement and rejected Freya.
While working with the Sons of Liberty, Freya and Meng Asada began a fiery fling. Their relationship was fueled by arguments and tension, leading to intense passion for a time. Freya, unwilling to get her heart broken again, tried to keep it from evolving into an actual relationship but true feelings developed on her part eventually. After the rebellion, and the fighting, ended, Freya worried what it would mean for them. But while Meng was fully committed, Freya backed out and pushed him away, even after learning she was pregnant.
Allegiances:
Though never happy with the rules set down by the Council, Freya was content to abide by them. She felt lucky to have a position, even a minimal one, within the Medical Ward and feared "rocking the boat." After the Sons of Liberty began their initial campaign, Freya began to question her own contentment. Eventually she joined the Sons of Liberty during the rebellion and continues to push for change even today.
